Tips For Keeping Your Holiday Packages Safe

Tips For Keeping Your Holiday Packages Safe

Last year, an estimated 23 million Americans had packages stolen from their homes. Here are 5 tips to help you ensure your packages aren't stolen this Holiday season.

  1. Use your tracking #. Most online retailers will provide you with a tracking # which tells you the estimated delivery time and also notifies you when a package has actually been delivered. That way you can be on the lookout for your package(s). You don’t want to leave them unattended for very long. At Give10Back.com we even provide text message alerts right to your cell phone.
  2. Use an app to reroute or reschedule a delivery – For $5 using the Fedex Delivery Manager or UPS’ My Choice app, allows you to reroute a package to a new address or reschedule it and have it delivered to your home on another day. For a $40 a year membership, UPS offers unlimited use of its rerouting and rescheduling service.
  3. Security cameras. The Ring Wi-Fi Enabled Video Doorbell is now just $99 and protects more than just your holiday packages. You can see anyone that approaches your front door right on your phone. It’s motion activated and if crooks see it they’ll most likely skip your house.
  4. Package Guard – This Frisbee-shaped device with the words “Place Package Here” written on top is designed to be put near your front door. When a package is delivered and placed on the Package Guard, you’ll be notified with a text message or email. If a thief tries to take your package, a hundred-decibel alarm goes off and you’ll receive another alert on your phone. Using your phone, you can deactivate the alarm when you return home to retrieve your delivery. The Package Guard is only $69.
  5. Put a vacation hold on your mail – If you are headed out of town for the holidays, the U.S. Post Office will hold your packages and mail for anywhere between three and 30 days. Then when you’re back in town, you can either pick-up your mail at your local post office or have it delivered to your home. The service is free.

5 Tips To Avoid Getting Scammed on Giving Tuesday

5 Tips To Avoid Getting Scammed on Giving Tuesday

Today is Giving Tuesday, an annual reminder of our collective obligation and desire that it's better to give than to receive. Here's how you can give back safely this Holiday season.

TIP #1: Avoid clicking on any links that you receive in your Inbox or via text. Instead, Google the charity that supposedly sent you the link and verify the charity’s identity. Then go to the charity’s legitimate website by either typing in their url or thru Google’s search results. Be careful not to mistype the url - especially when you’re using your cell phone. That might inadvertently route you to a scam site.

TIP #2:  Before donating to any charity, you should use sites like the BBB’s Give.org, Charity Navigator, Charity Watch and GuideStar to verify the charity’s legitimacy. The FTC and consumer watchdog organizations also provide additional tips and resources to help you avoid fake charities.

TIP #3: Be wary of providing personal or financial information. Even when donating to charities that you've confirmed are legitimate, the information you provide should be limited to what is needed to process your donation. Never give out your social security number.

TIP #4: Look carefully at the url address bar. Only donate on websites with HTTPS encryption. HTTPS stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secured (the "s" stands for secured).

TIP #5: Don’t be pressured by telemarketers: You have a right to hang up on a telephone call asking you to contribute to a charity. Be wary of claims such as “all proceeds go to charity.’ Often telemarketing companies receive most of the money they raise.

How To Safely Shop Online

How To Safely Shop Online

Here are 6 simple tips for avoiding cyber crooks:

TIP #1: Don't use free Wi-Fi on your mobile device. Don’t let convenience outweigh consequence. Cyber crooks are smart - they name their wi-fi networks something innocous, like Sea-Tac International Airport, and then when you connect as a guest they can start stealing your information. They add malware to your device and then when you shop or log into your bank account, they record your sensitive personal information and passwords.

And don’t forget to turn off the automatic Wi-Fi connectivity feature on your phone, so it won’t automatically seek out hotspots.

TIP #2: Avoid Phishing Scams. Never, ever click on links provided in an email to make a purchase. Instead, go to the site independently to verify the offer or coupon code first and only then log into your account.

TIP #3: Only visit websites with HTTPS encryption when in public places, as opposed to lesser-protected HTTP addresses. HTTPS stands for Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secured (the "s" stands for secured).

TIP #4: Double check the URL...Did you incorrectly type in a URL and now you’re on www.Amazonn.com (with two n’s)? Cyber criminals buy commonly misspelled domain names in the hopes you DO incorrectly type in a popular url. Then they set up a ‘mirror’ site that looks a lot like the one you intended to go to in the first place.

TIP #5: Use two credit cards. I dedicate 1 credit card to my online purchases and use another credit card for everything else. It’s just safer that way. I can quickly and easily see if any suspicious activity is occurring on my dedicated credit card and if there is I can readily dispute it or cancel it without impacting my other credit card account.

TIP #6: Know what the latest scams are...IC3.gov posts alerts on data breaches and the latest internet cyber crime schemes.Another great resource is the National Cyber Security Alliance at StaySafeOnline.org.

Also, If you are a victim of cyber crime, or get suspicious phishing emails, report them to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center.

The Easiest School Fundraiser Ever

The Easiest School Fundraiser Ever

As a parent you know that school fundraisers aren’t always exactly...well…fun. Unfortunately, it has become a necessary part of America life. For example, every year U.S. teachers pay on average $500 EACH out of their own pockets for school supplies to make up for the chronic $1.6 billion deficit in school funding. This is on top of what you and I as parents contribute in the way of school fundraisers! We all tolerate school fundraising because we care. But it’s getting harder to dole out money for an ever increasing number of school fundraisers our kids flyer us with and/or buying fundraising items that we don’t really want (and typically end up overpaying for).

As a parent I KNEW there had to be a better way to fundraise. That’s why I started Give10Back.com, an online shopping fundraiser featuring the most popular brand name products & everyday essentials at up to 75% OFF retail prices while at the same time donating 10% of EVERY sale to your school, church, or favorite charity at no cost to you.

Think about it. You probably already shop online, right? And who doesn’t love saving money? Plus, why not get something of real value for your fundraising contribution, something you were probably going to buy anyway? Give10Back.com simply simply rewards you and your favorite cause(s) big time for something you already do everyday, shop & save.

When was the last time you saw LEGOs on sale? Or Clorox? Or Diapers? The short answer is never. But at Give10Back.com they sell everything at 30%, 50%, even 75% off retail AND we donate 10% of EVERY sale to your school, church, or favorite charity - forever! You’re probably going to buy the very same brand name products anyways so why not save as much money as you can AND help support a cause that’s ‘near & dear’ to you, e.g. your local PTA, your Girl Scout Troop, your local Animal Rescue, your community Breast Care Awareness non-profit, your Band Boosters, etc.?

How is this possible? How can Give10Back.com sell brand name products for significantly less than Amazon and Walmart?

The answer is simple. Have you ever hosted a dinner party? If so, you know the Golden Rule is to make more than you think you’ll need - just in case. After all you don’t want to run out of food / wine and have disappointed guests, right? Well big box retailers follow the same logic. They overstock popular products to ensure that they don’t run out and disappoint their shoppers. Bare shelves are a retailer’s worst nightmare.

At Give10Back.com we take this excess merchandise and sell it to you at 30%, 50%, even 75% off of retail PLUS we’re able to donate 10% of EVERY sale to your school, church, or favorite charity - at no cost to you - forever!

As I alluded to earlier, Give10Back.com’s fundraiser isn’t really a fundraiser, at least not in the ‘traditional’ sense. We only sell things you really, really want at unbelievably low prices while helping support those you love. Unlike ‘traditional’ fundraisers, where you're asked to do your school, church, or favorite non-profit a favor, with a Give10Back fundraiser the favor is being bestowed upon you, i.e. you’re being told about an amazing way to save you lots of money while providing an easy and free way for you to donate to your school, church, or favorite cause. That’s a refreshing break from the ‘fundraising fatigue’ described earlier.

We invite you to always compare our prices. If we have the item you’re looking for chances are Give10Back.com has it for less money - a lot less money - than anyone else.

Whether you’re looking for the hottest Black Friday Deals & Sales, Cyber Monday Sales, Christmas & Holiday gifts, Birthday presents, Wedding & Anniversary presents or gifts for any occasion, Give10Back.com has what you want at prices you’ll love.

Anyone can shop on Give10Back.com and anyone can start a Give10Back fundraiser. Simply visit https://give10back.com/pages/raise-money -or- https://give10back.com/pages/about-us for more information.

We’re rethinking retail and reinventing fundraising. Join us on our mission to eradicate fundraising fatigue and put the FUN back in fundraising!
